AGM-88E Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles (AARGM) produced by Northrop Grumman are launched from U.S. Navy EA-18G Growlers on a DEAD (destruction of enemy air defenses) mission. Evolving from the Vietnam-era “Iron Hand” legacy of employing Shrike anti-radiation missiles against the SA-2 Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) batteries, the EA-18G Growler-AARGM combination provides the lethal capability to detect, locate, and permanently destroy modern air defense systems gaining assured access strike forces. AARGM utilizes a multi-mode seeker for hard-kill lethality against known and projected threats, regardless of enemy countermeasures and tactics. |
